Pen Movies, Pen Bhakti rule hearts during India lockdown

Given the fact that Indians have been observing a strict lockdown for the last three weeks to fight against COVID-19 and it’s now extended till May 3, keeping themselves entertained at home has been integral. Among all the other ways to keeping busy, consuming content on various digital platforms has been high. While there are several OTT platforms and GET channels doing the job, Pen Network has been leading all the way. Their two YouTube channels — Pen Movies and Pen Bhakti — have witnessed record consumption over the last few days.

While Pen Movies features popular Bollywood films like Phir Hera Pheri, Welcome and other films dubbed in Hindi, Pen Bhakti has been a favourite for the epic mythological show, Mahabharat, and several animated spiritual films including Hanuman.

Though these channels have always been a favourite, when it comes to traction, there has been a steep increase in the way people are consuming content on these channels during the lockdown period. A source says, “While the YouTube channel of Pen Movies has a subscriber base of 9.7 million, Pen Bhakti has 1.06 million subscribers. Pen Network has over 1000 hours of content with over 350 plus movies. A significant increase in viewership has been witnessed during the lockdown period.” It’s interesting that the epic, BR Chopra’s Mahabharata, is also being screened on the government-owned Doordarshan. For the uninitiated, Pen India LTD holds all the rights of the celebrated mythological tele series.

Elated with the numbers, Pen India chairperson, Dr Jayantilal Gada, says, “At Pen, our prime objective has always been to offer the best possible content for the entertainment of our consumers. These are tough times for all of us and I’m glad we, in the form of Pen Movies and Pen Bhakti, have managed to reach out to the citizens of our country. The kind of content that our channels offer either make people laugh or inspire them with their mythological greatness. Our constant endeavour is to provide sensible content to our viewers and we will continue to do that.”

Passing time with lock down : Maithillee Zaveri

Covid 19 was emerged in India on 30th January 2020 which has been originating from China. As of 10 April 2020, there has been a confirmation total of 6,412 cases, & 199 deaths so far in the country. This has also tremendously affected the economy of the country because India imposed a nationwide lockdown few weeks ago, it was designed to stop the imminent spread of the coronavirus.

The lockdown means all factories, markets, shops, and places of worship are now closed, most public transport suspended and construction work halted, as India asks its citizens to stay home and practice social distancing. Due to this, it has provided a temporary remedy to another pressing health issue: suffocating pollution levels. There have been clearer skies, trees/plants and flowers blooming, more birds chirping , sea creatures dancing in joy because of no boats/ships and pollution but, there have deserted roads which feels like being in 1940 – 45.

Amid the pros and cons of the Covid 19, the art market, has had the most immediate effect on emerging artists. Up-and-coming artists, who, even before the pandemic, were making very modest incomes, are now left without commercial outlets for their work, as many galleries, auction houses, and art fairs have shut down.

Living in the Financial city of the India, Mumbai, it has really been hard for me as an artist & human being to be locked down. As an artist, I’m unable to work from home due to lack of space & short of materials to work on/from. It is hard because we only have family support and no helper now so by doing and finishing the house chores becomes quite exhausting & thats just how the days usually go. Despite of re organizing the house, I do get time to practice on my art with whatever little materials I have in handy with me at home as, my studio is about 45 minutes away from home and is also shut. On one level, that has involved transition from large scale paintings to smaller drawings. I had my upcoming art exhibition too which was cancelled due to covid19. I’m grateful that all my artist friends and I who were part of this exhibition, supported each other and me to postpone this exhibition due to covid 19. Despite all the hurdles, I am taking a broader view on the crisis.

I don’t have a problem with social distancing,. I feel like the majority of my regular life is distanced from mot people. I’m more concerned for those who are loosing their jobs, businesses closing & so much more over the next year. Its really overwhelming and scary. A very hard time for the whole nation & I do hope situation gets better and the nation starts running smoothly again.

To keep my spirits up, I socialize Via whatsapp/facetime videos with my close and dear ones. House cleaning, working out, creating a few artworks, watching movies/shows, playing ludo via social distancing or chess have helped fill my days.

Covid 19 came out nowhere and has halted the world in its tracks. Everything has come to a standstill. Most developed countries are struggling to curtail the number of casualties running into thousands.

Economies are destroyed because of complete lockdowns and stock markets have crashed.

But as all of us have suddenly realised that the skies are bluer, the bird are singing and animals are carefree as they roam around.

looking for the positives is not difficult, as we all spend time with our families, isolated at home. The same families that we had no time for a while back. Now we are cooking fresh meals, eating them together, helping with chores, pitching in to do things we never thought we would be doing. We are all sudddenly more health and hygiene conscious. The governments are cleaning up like never before. Malls, cinema halls, shops, pavements, roadsides have all been disinfected. Suddenly baking a cake, or making a soup or a biryani is the centre of the family activity, where earlier it was left to takeaways and ordering in. Sleeping without setting alarms is supremely relaxing, or watching movies with families. Our fancy cars, and designer clothes are all relegated to the background, as we realise life is not about rushing or what’s outside. This virus is the biggest equalizer of all, as it doesn’t distinguish between rich or poor, caste or creed, race or religion. In fact, all the religious places are shut down, as humans come to understand the biggest and the best religion is humanity and kindness. As we have brought all our people back home from abroad or stranded wherever they were, we must also look after the underprivileged similarly, reach them to their homes and villages safely, or provide them spaces and food to survive wherever they are. We must all stand together in this hour of need. This will pass, as everything does, but hopefully the lessons learnt remain with us all.

Being Positive in Pandemic : Kanchan Rai Founder of Let’s Talk Foundation

I guess most of us are going through various emotional states as Covid 19 continues its global impact. We have hunkered down for a while already with all schools and collages closed, mandated to work from home arrangements and every day to day thing. It’s tough to feel in control when everything else is out of your control. The most common emotions faced by all is fear. Here are some ways to keep ourselves positive and over come this fear. Be busy, have a regular activity and be engaged in any work at home.Create memoeries with your family members which is left when you are busy with your day to day work. Having family time on vacation is something good but its rare when we get such time to spent with our loved ones. Playing games, sharing experiece and creating a way forward for future activites can be done with perfectoin during this time. Keep yourself away from all the negatives thought, avoid watching same negative news again and again. Who you choose to spend your time with and the input you get from further away like the TV, the internet and magazines will have a huge effect on your outlook. To be able to stay positive it is essential to have influences in your life that support you and lift you up instead of dragging you down.So carefully consider what you let into your mind.

Balance your social media consumption.Social media might appear to be filled with bad news, but for many it is also a key way to stay updated and connected with friends and loved ones. Keeping your phone out of your bedroom, or self-imposing screen-free time, can help you to balance the negativity with the benefits social media brings. Reading and listening music works wonder. An old activity or forgotten hobby can be cherished during this time. Eat well and keep your self hydrated. Being physical active is equally important. Any form of workout which can be done indoor will keep you physically fit and mentally healthy.

Handling emotional problems is equally important during this time. Breathing exercise for few minutes may help to calm down. Don’t obsess over being happy or happiness. Actively pursuing happiness can lead to reverse effect. For one thing the more we focus on happiness the less we focus on happiness around us. Focusing on small things is wise then to spend time on searching for big happiness. Focus on blessings instead of your issues.

Give yourself a break. Don’t add to the extrinsic stress levels of the health crisis by adding pressure on yourself.

We’re all going through a lot of life changes at the same time, and it’s good to acknowledge that we’re not all going to be working at peak performance for a little while until we adapt to the ‘new normal Recognize mental health problems in your near by people. Be supportive to them. If problem persist contact helpline or health professional at earliest. Please remember good mental status in difficult times may win you battle more easily.

Chirag Purushotam helping underprivileged during the Covid-19 crisis

In the fight against the novel coronavirus everyone needs a helping hand. In these days of trial, Mr Chirag Purushotam, Chairman of Indian American International Chambers of Commerce, participated in the distribution of essential food items to the needy alongside the Former Home Minister of Karnataka, Shri. Ramalinga Reddy.

On the twitter handle of Mr Chirag Purushotam he had on the account of World Health Day on 07th April 2020, tweeted about the importance of hygiene and also how important it is to conserve water while doing the same.

His tweet on World Health Day 2020 gives us the impression that while it is important to follow hygiene measures to keep diseases at bay one must also keep in mind that nature has a delicate balance which humans must respect in order to preserve harmony. A noteworthy point is on using a foot pedal for taps in order to contain the spread of infection.

Much is lost but much is left to preserve.

In his tweet he also made special mentions of Shri Ratan Tata and Shri Dr Azim Premji in their timely contributions and donations to the Indian economy during these times. Their economical extension has been a pillar of support in an immense manner.

India stands united in the fight against CoVID-19. JaiHind!
